For volunteer tutors, every session is automatically logged and verified. Certificates are available for download at any time and are accepted by the National Honor Society, college applications, and scholarship programs.

VolunTutor is designed with safety as a first principle, particularly for minors.
Tutor screening
All tutor applications are manually reviewed by our admin team. Tutors must provide proof of enrollment and subject competency before their profiles go live.
Session monitoring
All sessions occur over monitored Google Meet links generated by our platform. Session metadata is logged. Any participant can report a concern at any time during or after a session.
Parent visibility
Parents and guardians can link to their child's student account to receive session notifications, view session history, and confirm attendance.
Reporting
Use the 🚨 Report button in any session room to flag a concern. Our safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours.

What we collect
Name, email address, school (students), session metadata, and usage data. We do not sell personal data.
COPPA
Users under 13 require verifiable parental consent. Parent email is collected at signup and a consent email is sent before the account activates.
Data storage
Data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted in the US. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.2+.

By using VolunTutor, you agree to these terms. Do not misuse the platform. Sessions are for academic purposes only. Violations result in account termination.
User responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of your profile, attending booked sessions, and respectful conduct toward all users.

Be respectful
All users — students, tutors, parents — must treat each other with dignity and respect.
Be reliable
Show up to booked sessions. Cancel at least 24 hours in advance if needed.
Be honest
Only claim hours for sessions that actually occurred. Falsification results in a permanent ban.
Keep it safe
Do not share personal contact information in chat or sessions. All communication stays on the platform.
Student Safety
You are always in control
You can leave any session at any time. You can report any concern immediately. No tutor will ever have your personal contact information.
What to do if something feels wrong
Click the 🚨 Report button in the session room, or email safety@voluntutor.org. Our team reviews all reports within 24 hours.
Hour Verification Policy
Automatic verification
When a student confirms attendance after a session, the tutor's hours are automatically verified and inserted into their record. No manual admin action is required for standard sessions.
Manual verification
Admins can manually verify hours for sessions where automatic verification failed (e.g. technical issues).
Certificate generation
Certificates reflect verified hours only. They update automatically when new hours are verified.
Parent Consent
Students under 13 require a parent or guardian to complete a consent form before their account activates. A consent link is emailed to the parent email provided at signup.
Parents can link their account to monitor all sessions in real time via the Parent Portal.
